Red Bitter

15 MIN | 2020

a 15-minute performance centered on an intuitive-dancerly-shamanistic surgery of internal body organs made from ready-made items taken from Sigal’s home kitchen. This work was created during the covid pandemic and was commissioned for a festival tailored to audience participation of 5 people or less. The work holds the duality of violence and healing that is inherent to surgical procedure. Actions that take their inspiration from ancient medicine, alternative healing and somatic practices such as massage, drainage, vibration and separation - are presented as a choreographic act.

At a moment when we as a society have deviated from the expected trajectory of ‘normal progress’, we are required to redraw our physical boundaries and ask what is unnecessary, what is toxic and how far we are willing to go to be healed.
